Felino, Vina Cobos, Malbec, 2011, Mendoza, Argentina

Felino, Vina Cobos, Malbec, 2011, Mendoza Argentina is a more sophisticated Malbec then usually found on store shelves. Superstar California wine maker Paul Hobbs is the man behind this wine. While it displays the tell tale deep purple color of Malbec, this wine is just not another fruit bomb. With floral aromas of violet and rose, a slight hint of graphite and ripe raspberries and blueberries. On the palate the berries explode on the palate followed by minerals and a long dry finish with tannins that don’t overwhelm. This wine went great with oven roasted chicken thighs in a diced tomato pan sauce with garlic and sage. But don’t shy away from pairing this wine with grilled beef Argentinean style.
