You probably won't make the trip to Fat Burrito in Crown Point for the ambiance, unless big-screen TVs are your thing. The restaurant is tiny with minimum seating lining the walls of this starkly decorated joint. But the size and flavor of their namesake burritos will have you coming back over and over again.
I can only vouch for the ground beef burrito, guacamole and freshly made tortilla chips. They were fabulous. The burrito is the size of a newborn child (I know, eeewww) and truly one of the largest of its ilk I've ever seen. Everything I tasted has a slight kick to it but the heat is not overpowering unless, I imagine, you ask for it.
For such a small establishment, the menu is huge, featuring everything from breakfast to appetizers, lunch, dinner and dessert items. The usual suspects are all represented plus seldom-seen Chilaquiles Desayuno (chopped tortillas with eggs and ranchero sauce) for $5.50 and Lengua Tacos (tongue) for $2 each, A children's menu for kids less than 12 years of age features $4.25 Mexican and American meals. Adult lunch specials range in price from $4 to $7.50 and might include a Chile Relleno lunch for $5.50 or Pork Burrito dinner for $5.99 as were featured recently.
If owners David Huerta De Jesus and Benjamin Paredes Rojas have the ingredients in house, they'll make pretty much any Mexican dish you ask for. The burritos are the best I've had in a long time.
