The changes at Farmer & Fishers include not only a change in the name (to add Bakers at the end) but also a more simplified decor and better menu. Portions are food, but the dishes are satisfying and many dishes are perfect for sharing.
The starters will all be a hit; the hearty house made bread comes with tasty dips, the pretzels are huge and delicious with the spicy pimento cheese spread as well as the sour cream spread, guacamole is made tableside, and onion rings are crunchy and irresistible.
As for main courses, there are a variety of pizzas, tacos, mussels, and burgers. The mushroom Rueben is one of their best dishes, with layers of mushrooms, cheese, and potato “sauerkraut.” The veggie burger is also hearty and fulfilling, with greens, pickles, onions, and tomatoes and served with a heap of crunchy fries. Cauliflower steak is another great vegetarian option, as are the mushroom “scallops.”
Dessert is a must: The beignets are hot and fresh and served with several sweet dipping sauces, and the ice cream sandwiches are perfect, with soft cookies and creamy ice cream. Boston cream pie, ice cream cake, and the banana pudding trifle are some of the other best desserts. Order several and share!
Hand-crafted cocktails are plentiful, but teetotalers can enjoy a classic New York Egg Cream, or a house made soda.
Prices are reasonable, and the location, on the Georgetown waterfront, is lovely. This is a great place for dinner with family or a group of friends.
