Fallout Tactics is a turn based/real time strategy game released for Windows on March 15th, 2001. The game was developed by Micro Forté and published by 14 degrees east, but now by Bethesda. The story doesn’t stray far from the other fallout games, except a Vault and its members name themselves the Brotherhood of Steel, dedicated to restore civilization and reclaiming and developing new and better technologies. Shortly after, some members have split from the group to form their own Brotherhood of Steel. Whose side should you take the side that liked the game, or the side that didn’t like the game?

Graphics-While identical to the first two games, there are more options available to the player, which allows for different screen resolutions and hardware buffers. The character models look more three dimensional, and the scenery looks less grainy.

Sound-The sound isn’t that much different from the first two games. The voice acting is decent, but nothing special stands out.

Gameplay-The game play can be played in two different ways, either turn base or real time. Turn base turns the game play into the first two games, while real time is nonstop action. Everything else remains the same. One thing that sets this game apart is that now you control squad members, and the mechanic was well done, as this allowed for various ways of defeating your enemies. Controls can be sluggish at first, but they don’t take long to get used to.

Canon-This game falls into the non-canon category, and that’s a good thing, because if this game did fall into canon, there’d be issues with story and settings.

Overall-While Fallout Tactics is a good game; the emphasis on strategy isn’t exactly for everyone. The option of making this game either turn base or real time was a smart decision, which allowed players to play the way they want.
