The Wolf of Wall Street

For those who were offended by Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” music video shouldn’t think of watching “The Wolf of Wall Street, as that is just a blip of the amount of nudity that you will witness in this movie. Granted, the movie isn’t about nudity, but it is all about gratuitous behavior when it comes to money, luxury, and thrown in there is a lot of nakedness.

The film, which kept changing its release date, is about East Coast stockbroker Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) and is loosely based on his true rags to riches story. He builds his empire by swindling those who are investing and makes it so each deal turns a profit made up of multiple zeroes at the end for him.

Kyle Chandler as a FBI agent on Belfort’s trail is dull and lifeless especially compared to DiCaprio’s quick-witted charm. Early scenes with Matthew McConaughey as a mentor to Belfort are fantastic, but it really is the performances from DiCaprio and Jonah Hill as his partner-in-crime Donnie Azoff that keeps this three-hour movie steadily moving.

Beauty Margot Robbie as Belfort’s wife, Naomi makes quite a splash of her own. She holds a commanding presence even among the amount of testosterone that overcomes this story and film. The story is over-the-top and at times could use an edit or two, but the pace is pretty swift and in three hours it’s tough to tell which was more tantalizing, the rise or fall of Jordan Belfort. The film is definitely character driven with the decade of the neon 90s serving as the best accessory you can ask for.

Final words: Entertaining and fun with a new conversation starter to add to your arsenal: “Sell me this pen.”
