Excellent service and cozy atmosphere at Fiesta Mexicana in Durango, Colorado

It is easy to forget the snow outside when you are greeted warmly at the door of Fiesta Mexicana, a lovely Mexican restaurant in Durango, Colorado.  The service is incredible. I dined with two co-workers and we had three people waiting on us.  This is theraputic dining at its best.  The stresses of the week began to slip away with the first Negra Modelo, as we shook off the cold and took in the brightly colored, semi-tropical atmosphere of Fiesta Mexicana.

I ordered the Tampiquena, which is a skirt steak with cheese and shrimp on top, served with onions and refried beans.  I told the waiter that this was the best thing I had to eat all week, and truly, it was. The shrimp were flavored with seasoning and spices as was the beef, and both were mouth watering and delicious. The tortillas were fresh and warm. They were wonderful with the onions and beans.

My companions ordered the bean burrito and pollo con arroz.  They sipped daiquiris, and especially enjoyed the banana daiquiri.  They had eaten in the restaurant earlier in the week, and by thier description, interested me in trying it out.  Both were quite pleased, and had only good things to say about the food and service.

Special orders don't bother the staff of Fiesta Mexicana.  I asked for corn tortillas instead of flour, and roasted chiles on the side.  No problem, they brought me just what I wanted. The people there are very accomodating and friendly.

My only warning is that you should ask for a box when your meal arrives, instead of at the end.  Portion sizes are huge, and it is easy to overindulge.  I made two meals of the Tampiquena, and still had leftovers. This is by no means a complaint, it is nice to be able to leave a restaurant feeling full and satisfied. I highly recommend Fiesta Mexicana for dinner, family events and recreational eating.  Check out their full menu at www.durangomenu.com.
