Epilogues: 'The Cartographer' (2013)

"The Cartographer" by Epilogues is a Folk album that feels very thought out, yet also pleasingly mellow and light on the ear.

The first three tracks are solid acoustic pieces (with sparse glimmerings of piano now and again). The male vocal that accents these pieces is content to stay softly quiet, giving some of the more sad lyric added power- as the vocals seem to have a real strength in their ability to deliver emotional messages in a subdued fashion without the need to yell them or overdo it.

The fourth track (entitled: "Atlas, At Last") is the first track that is instrumentally completely piano. This sound is exceptionally suited to the melancholy feel of the songwriting, and works especially well within the choruses that sound to be the most heartbreaking of the album so far. This style is re-explored in the track "E" as well.
