Emmure's New Single "Demons With Ryu" (Review)

Deathcore act Emmure's first single "Demons With Ryu" off their upcoming album "Speaker of the Dead" (out February 15 on Victory Records) was made available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon today. If this song is a sign of things to come, I am highly anticipating their new album.

After the release of Emmure's fourth album "Felony" (in my opinion the worst album of 2009) I had pretty much given up on this band. Highly impressed by their first three titles, it seemed that they had traveled down a hip-hop influenced path that there seeemed no dignified return from with their fourth effort. However, after hearing "Demons With Ryu" it seems Emmure does still have the ability to be a straight up brutal band returning to their more familiar sound.

I'll have my review of the full release of "Speaker of the Dead" when it is released on February 15.

Say what you will man, if you want to hear "Felony" done right just listen to E Town Concrete's "The Second Coming", done six years earlier and six times better. Emmure's getting back to their basics, because "Felony" didn't work.

I like hip hop influence when it's done right, wether that was felony or not, not too sure. but as for the new song, yeah its BOMB

Don't get me wrong, hip-hop influence done right is great (i.e. E Town Concrete, Hed P.E.), but "Felony" just didn't seem to blend to me. Can't wait for the new stuff.

E.TC is one of my all-time favorite bands...The Second Coming is a classic to this day

I felt that Felony was a very good album. You are right in saying that if Demons With Ryu a taste of what is to come, then we are all in for sweet piece of heavy pie!

The Complete Guide Too Needlework and Goodbye To The Gallows albums are awesome. I feel their quality has declined since Ben and Joe left, we'll see if Emmure can rise up from a horrible, horrible album.

I'd definitely agree with you that their first two albums are hands down their best and I also thought "The Respect Issue" was pretty damn good too, "Felony" as I said was horrible. I think the new guys are getting their legs under them and sounding a lot heavier on their two new tracks.

Hey, good review. I am an Ann Arbor Metal Examiner and just saw this review. I actually just reviewed "Speaker Of The Dead" yesterday for the Ann Arbor Examiner. Emmure is one of those bands that most people love or hate...I actually thought Felony was decent, much better than The Respect Issue, but Speaker Of The Dead has its moments too!
