“Second Hand Love” by Electra is meshing of styles, with punk, rockabilly, surf, and ska influences throughout.
In their more upbeat, straight pop incarnations they have a sound similar to Kaiser Chiefs. At times (such as in the song “Honeycomb) the singer belts with a deep, almost pho-cheesy coon vocal, paired with the retro sound this can come off as similar in spirit to the works of “Cars”.
Songs like “Day by Day” sound like a more tighter translation of Acid Rock, with a feel that's very 60's , especially with the addition of the rock organ into the mix.
The guitar line that comes in 2/3 through “Start All Over” is straight surf, but it gains a new edge when paired with haunting background vocals that gives it a sound similar to Ennio Morricone's soundtrack work in Sergio Leone's western series (especially “The Good the Bad and the Ugly”). This sound has some carry over into the next track (entitled:'Sirens (San Diego)') as well.
