Oh boy, another arrival to Culver City's dining scene. I was excited to try this new restaurant after reading Jonathan Gold's review in the LA Times. We got there early, anticipating a line since new kids on the block are often crowded.

It was about 5:30, and the place was relatively empty. And then I understood why. Their Happy Hour is from 3 to 5:30, and if you know the entertainment industry in Culver City, this is not any incentive for people to visit. We witnessed one couple coming in for Happy Hour, but since it was already over, one look at the menu prompted them to leave. Drinks were pricey, and the food was expensive for the portions that were provided.

If you are a new restaurant entering a crowded dining scene, you need to do more to persuade people to give your restaurant a try. I doubt we will be back to this place, unless they extend the Happy Hour time frame, and make the food less expensive. Vietnamese food is usually a bargain in my opinion, and this was far from it.

The decor and ambiance is on the modern side, but the fixtures seemed cheap. It's got a groovy vibe with loud progressive music, if that's your thing. Service was fine and friendly.

But East Borough, you are on the wrong side of the street if you want to encourage patrons to visit your restaurant. Lower your prices, give larger portions, and give people an incentive to visit and you will probably succeed. There are too many other restaurants in downtown Culver City that are actively vying for the diner's business.
