Earth Jam 2011 at Liberty Park was a jammin' good time

Earth Jam 2011 at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City was a two-day, all day, fun Earth day celebration which included live bands, vendors and was family and dog friendly. Unfortunately, one can't always take part in every all day activity. This is a break down of day one from about 5:00pm to a little after 9:00pm, mostly on the Fire Stage.

The first band caught was Parchman Farm Freedom Riders who rocked the crowd with bluesy rock sweetness. They brought energy, great presence and even a few laughs to the day. The guitarist, Nathan Lambros plays some mean licks that capture viewers' attention and it's hard not to stare. The bassist and wife to Lambros, Codiann, is also entertaining to watch as she rocks out like a Blues, bass-playing goddess, making playing bass, look damn sexy (as if it wasn't, before) and could easily influence more females to take it up. Definitely a band worth making friends with and hitting multiple shows.

Next up were some up-and-coming musicians from Music Garage. Their covers of Evanescence, Tom Petty and Rage Against the Machine were especially fun. This program trains kids up to the age of nineteen, to be talented musicians. All seemed comfortable onstage and well rehearsed. Keep up with these kids, they could end up in your new favorite local band. It's nice to see youth engaging in the Arts, it seems there are becoming less and less opportunities for that. As the Arts continue to be under appreciated.

Hard rockers Grasp Infinity were up next. Once again, they brought experienced, energetic, talent and wicked tunes to the table...or stage. Grasp is sort of an audio heroin. Getting hooked is likely to happen after just one song and an addiction could follow. Lead singer Mark, is especially fun to watch, as he plucks his guitar with his teeth and plays it behind his head. Anyone into rock/metal would quite likely enjoy this band. Or really, anyone who enjoys energetic music with a great rhythm. And who doesn't? Another high five to these guys.

A little after eight, a stroll through the vendors for dinner, brings a person to the Earth Stage, where Muscle Hawk would go on. Muscle Hawk brings audio-visual madness to an electronic wonderland. Not without a bunch of bouncing Cheshire cats with wide grins and fire dancers across from the stage. No need to feel self-conscious about joining in, “we're all mad here.” These guys could possibly be one of the most fun electronic bands in the state of Utah. There has been proof that they've been gaining popularity. Check them out for yourself and come let your ears be mesmerized but the rest of the body go crazy.
