The Eagle Creek Morphus™ 22 is a durable, versatile and ultra-light hybrid gear bag with innovative construction that allows you to zip off the front gear bag from the polycarbonate back shell and use the morphing technology to create a second full-size bag. Do you need a carry-on sized travel bag? How about 2-in-1? That’s what you’ll get with the Morphus.
The Morphus has several carrying options that include zip-away backpack straps, a removable padded shoulder strap, and multiple grab handles. There’s an exterior quick stash 3-1-1 pocket to help with organization. The lockable front pocket includes a zippered pocket, slip pockets, pen slots and key fob Porter Key™ bottle opener attachment. There’s a padded sleeve in the front pocket that is sized to fit most 15” laptops and an additional padded sleeve that fits most tablets (22” only). Finger-friendly zipper pulls with self-repairing zippers are #10 lockable. If the bag ends up in a puddle, the bottom has a “bathtub” construction that resists water. Bi-Tech™ and Bi-Tech™ Armor fabrics are built in for durability and provide extreme abrasion and weather resistance, and it comes with the “No Matter What™” Warranty which is a lifetime warranty promise plus added insurance of repair or replacement due to damage, regardless of the cause.
Eagle Creek definitely did great with creating the Morphus. The Morphus is a brilliant idea that just works. A few trips have been accompanied by the Morphus and it has some really nice space in both bags. If you have the Eagle Creek Pack-It System and Gear Organizers, the Morphus integrates with the system. And those that like to make fun of others with organized packs; don’t knock it until you try it. The Eagle Creek Pack-It System is wonderful to have. Instead of rifling through your things to find what you need and then leaving a mess later, the Pack-It System helps eliminate that with the different compartment sleeves you can pack your things into. It really is fantastic and keeps your things in a nice orderly manner.
The Morphus, with its ultra-durability, really impressed as it was thrown up in a gear box on the roof my car or tossed in the back of the car among other gear packed for trips. Anything from climbing, mountain biking, and hiking gear was packed into one or both of the bags at a time, and it handled very well. I loved the multiple grip handles as they were in the right places that I usually always grab my gear bags. It was extremely convenient. The sturdy shoulder straps and sternum strap on the backpack/shoulder bag kept the bag in place and I didn’t have any issues with comfort whatsoever.
The only suggestion for the Morphus would be to add spinner wheels. This makes transporting much smoother if you’re wheeling it around. Other than that, Eagle Creek really produced a high-quality, decent capacity, tough yet stylish gear bag. And just the fact that you have two carry-on sized bags in one is awesome in itself. I’d absolutely recommend the Morphus for your outdoor travel adventures.
