For over 50 years, Sir Ian Flemming’s James Bond has been one of the most revered characters in filmmaking. The character has appeared in a multitude of incarnations and is one of the longest tenured characters in film making. James Bond is one of the first archetypes that laid the foundation for action star. He set then raised the bar for what an action star is considered. The Bond character continues to re-invent himself in order to stay relevant for today’s modern audience.
Skyfall is the newest, action packed culmination of a five decade long love affair between audiences and the great spy who we all love. This film is the latest addition to one of Hollywood’s most sacred franchises. It’s an engrossing, enigmatic convergence that becomes the bridge to the Bond movies of old and the path for the Bond films to come.. The film stars Daniel Craig (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Judi Dench (J. Edgar) Ralph Fiennes (Wrath of the Titans), Javier Bardmen (No Country For Old Men), and Naomie Harris (Ninja Assassin).
Skyfall is the first Bond film with Craig as the great secret agent to feel like this is actually a precursor to the other Bond movies. This film brings the character full circle with a twist. It is the first of the Daniel Craig Bond movies to have the classic James Bond feel. This film feels like a Bond movie. While Craig brought some zest to the franchise, he clearly lacked all of the “classic” elements that endeared the character to audiences and began the romance. Its action packed and a great story. Has great pacing. Skyfall brings them in. The character of Money penny, who was a big part of the James Bond universe, finally makes her appearance during the “Craig“ era, Q, The classic bond car, a number of witty references that pay homage to the prior Bond movies, and a great villain that will take his place among the greatest of classic Bond villains. However, in this film, Craig embraces many of the classic traits that will rekindle the romance.
Skyfall is comprised of great performances led by Javier Bardmen. He makes for a great villain that will surely go down as one of the greats in James Bond lore. Bardmen is at his devious best. He is every bit of Bond’s equal and then some. The conflict is at the core of the film is explosive.
Daniel Craig finally portrays James Bond like James bond instead of like a Jason Bourne rip off. Skyfall is one of the better Bond films. I am still not a fan of Craig but he doesn’t suck anymore.
