Not every film out there on the market ends up in your local AMC/Cineplex multiplex; some are made for educational purposes to be shown in museums with special IMAX theatres. Out today from our friends at eOne Home Entertainment is a film that puts us into the cockpit of some of history’s most fascinating airplanes. Get ready to explore the “Legends of Flight”.
In the hundred-year-plus history of aviation, truly radical new aircraft designs come along only once in a generation, and since the early ’70s, there’s been very little new in the skies…that is until now. Soaring onto the passenger airliner scene are the “game changing” Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner. With some thrilling flights of fancy these amazing airplanes participate in some of the most breathtaking sequences ever seen. You will see the first public flight of the massive, but super-efficient Airbus A380 at the 2007 Paris Air Show and the first flight of the smaller, even more efficient 787, the first-ever carbon fiber airliner that made its maiden flight in 2009. This unique cinematic experience shows how the 787 might affect the next 100 years of aeronautical design.
“Legends of Flight” is an interesting but all be it brief look at the history of aeronautics. The inside look at design of some of these planes is actually quite fascinating as the explanation of what keeps us in the air is actually a little scary, but always interesting. Having been shot for the IMAX screen there is some beautiful aerial photography as we go through the brief history of flight.
Ultimately “Legends of Flight” is a short yet interesting look at the inner workings of an airplane and the history of the developing technology of flight, more for the classroom rather than then living room but an interesting little film.
3 out of 5 stars.
