Dropkick Murphys do it again with Going out in Style

Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day Dropkick Murphys new cd “Going out in Style” has landed in stores for your listening pleasure.  The Celtic punk legends 2011 release is packed with 13 or 14 if you purchased the iTunes version online of soon to be classic “Celt punk” tunes. With the usual array of bagpipes, tin whistles, and fiddles blended with Les Paul’s and all the Oi! of punk, the Boston band has an album that will make any fan of punk or Celtic music proud. From the opening drums of “Hang ‘Em High” the vibe of the album is set to give you all you expect from a Dropkick Murphys album. The typical Dropkicks flair for historic lyrics and catchy beats have really come through on this disc with such songs as “Broken Hymns” with its moving lyrics of the Civil War and how a young soldier has dealt with his experience. The Boston lads also give a nod to their punk heroes on the song “Sunday Hardcore Matinee” with references to legends Bad Brains, Agnostic Front and others in a song about the all too forgotten in 2011 all day metal and punk shows.

From slow songs such as “1953” to the near bluegrass sounding “Take ‘Em Down” this album has something for everyone even if they are not a fan of the Celtic Punk genre. Close your eyes and listen to the opening of “Deeds not Words” plays and it is hard to not imagine a film such as Braveheart. If you loved past Dropkick Murphys albums “The Meanest of Times”, “Blackout” or “Do or Die” you will not be disappointed with their latest work.
