As the leaves are changing into the sizzling colors of autumn, we begin to pumpkin spice ALL of the things to blend the charm of this season, with its crisp sunny days and cornflower blue nights that hint at winters' chill, into all we eat and drink. It is a delicious time.
Poured in the standard black and tan fashion, the pungent spicy notes of the unfiltered UFO Pumpkin add a beautiful boldness to that exquisite, bittersweet velvety froth that only a properly-poured, pure Guinness Stout can deliver. Served with a cinammon-sugared rim, the Jack-O-Lantern captures all the bounty of the harvest season in every sip.
I stumbled on this taste of the season at DTCT (Downtown City Tavern) in Glens Falls, NY but now I'll be on the lookout for this combination everywhere I go. If your pub or tavern happens to have these two on tap, do yourself a favor and ask your bartender to pour one up for you, or create them at home for your holiday party...they will certainly be a hit!* As with any seasonal, UFO Pumpkin won't be around for long, so light up with a Jack-O-Lantern and stay foodie while ye may!
*To create the Jack-O-Lantern at home, first generously rim your pint glass with a blend of cinammon and sugar, pour the Harpoon UFO Pumpkin in first to just about halfway. Then, using the back of a spoon held over the glass, slowly pour the Guinness in a cascade on top for a perfectly layered harvest beer.
