Drink Hard, with a Kronik Vengeance

Sometimes I feel a twinge of guilt at my job as critic - sometimes my fondness for companies, or lack thereof brings temptation in me to sway my opinion.  After all, when critics sit in judgment it is hard to tell where justice leaves off and vengeance begins. Of course, in this case, Vengeance begins with a new flavor by Kronik,  one of my favorite energy drink companies, managing to survive many long years under the yoke of Coca Cola and Hansens.  I have always enjoyed my Kronik flavors.  I remember paying for one at a gas station, screaming "Vengeance is mine, and I will pay!" I have even shared my new Kronik with friends.  After all, one good gulp of vengeance deserves another.

Packaging:7

This design is more or less the same variety as their black Vengance cans, only with plain bare aluminum as the background. I never really liked cans that use bare metal as a color - as it usually strikes me as cheap.  In this case it works OK, but the can itself does not really stand out on the shelves.

The actual design on the can is nice enough - with the barb wire their distressed green fonts.  The drink follows mechanics enough - listing the caffeine content as well as all the other nutrients plainly and clearly.       I feel that while the design is fitting, it is a bit over-masculine. With a Low-Carb formula such as this, they might have gone for a more gender neutral design. No one delights more in vengeance than a woman.

Taste:8
I pulled out this can from deep in the fridge, because everyone knows that Vengeance is a drink best served... cold. The first sip of Vengeance left me perplexed.  Something of vengeance I had tasted for the first time; as aromatic wine it seemed, on swallowing, cold and racy: its after-flavor, sharp and fruity , gave me a sensation as if I had dropped a jolly rancher in a Red Bull.

This is not a hit you over the head flavor.  It is much more mellow than that - with a light apple red bull flavor.    While separating itself from soda, there was pretty heavy carbonation, which led to excessive burping.  This did not get helped out any when I chugged this can down in one go, because delay in vengeance gives a heavier blow.

Buzz:8

For only 150mg caffeine per 100mg  per can, the buzz was actually quite decent.  While it did not blast me into stratospheric conditions, I did feel a nice little tingly buzz..  This could be in response to the load of other nutrients in here, including 2 grams Taurine, Grape seed extract, Licorice root, Ginger, L-Carnitine, and Tyrosine.Ginseng, a nice dose of extra caffeine from Guarana, Ginko Biloba, Inositol, Glucuronolactone, Milk Thistle, Glucosamine, and a chunk of vitamin B for good measure.

If you are looking for a great low-cab change of pace, this not only has a good deal of energy, but also stuff to help you live better.  And as the Talmud says, Living well  is the greatest vengeance.
