Bram Stoker cannot be credited as the inventor of vampires, he did define the interpretation that had remained with the modern world since he first wrote Dracula in 1897.
The novel is written in the form of a letter between Jonathan Harker and his fiancée back in England. Harker is a newly qualified solicitor who travels to Count Dracula’s caste in order to provide support for a real estate transaction. He soon notices the danger he is in at the castle and eventually makes it out with his life.
After Harker’s departure, Dracula is tracking Mina Murray, Harker’s fiancée and her friend Lucy in England. He strikes Lucy and after she accepts marriage from the Hon. Arthur Holmwood, she begins to suspiciously waste away. That is when Abraham Van Helsing is called in. After the death of Lucy, Dracula’s sights are turned to Mina.
