Dr. Bronner’s 18-in-1 pure-castile soap review

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap has the most confusing packaging ever. If you’ve seen one of these bottles, then you know what I’m referring to. There are words on every inch of the bottle. Some words are vertical, some are horizontal, but there is no empty space on any of the bottles.

I’ve picked up a bottle several times, trying to give this soap a place in my routine. But each time, I found myself utterly confused. There are no clear directions of proper usage or any details on what all the 18 uses are.

If you take a look at the ingredients, then you’ll see no more than 10 ingredients, all certified fair trade and organic. I first used this soap on my dishes and it literally dissolved the grease that I would’ve had to scrub continuously.

My cousin Taylor introduced the idea of using the soap as shampoo. She told me she uses the peppermint fragrance, and it gives her scalp an amazing conditioning cleanse. A few weeks later, I perused the aisles of Target and discovered the tea tree Dr. Bronner’s Soap on sale for $5.24(it is originally $10.49). Of course I threw it in my basket along with two more bottles. I was excited : )

Fast forward… Instead of putting my shampoo in a spray bottle and diluting it with aloe vera juice, I took the tea tree shampoo directly from the bottle, lathered it in my hand and applied it directly to my scalp. Lather isn’t necessary for me, but this soap lathers just like any sulfate shampoo. Let me just say, the these ingredients are amazing.

Water, Organic Coconut Oil*, Potassium Hydroxide**, Organic Olive Oil*, Tea Tree Extract, Organic Fair Deal Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Citric Acid, Tocopherol

* Certified Fair Trade Ingredients

** None remains after saponifying oils into soap and glycerin

I already knew my hair and scalp are already huge fans of coconut oil, olive oil, tea tree and jojoba oil. After I rinsed the shampoo from my hair and scalp, I was left with soft and super defined curls and a scalp that wasn't stripped.

Overall, I am very satisfied. The 18-in-1 soap offers a sneaky aggressive punch for cleaning around the house and a mild yet moisturizing duo for my hair and scalp. I am satisfied in every way possible and I'm also a loyal fan of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps. Btw, there are eight fragrances to choose from, each made with pure essential oils.
