Donnie Yen's Flashpoint kicks its way onto Blu-Ray

Martial Arts films are a dime a dozen, but only a handful really deliver on almost every level. Donnie Yen has made a name for himself over the years as one of the top in the industry, a none more than with his Ip Man series. With that popularity, they have rereleased his 2007 action hit Flashpoint on Blu-Ray. We all know Yen is a legend, but does this older film compare to his more recent hits?

Flashpoint follows an agent fighting against three brothers of a powerful Vietnamese gang. Although this movie can’t throw a spinning kick to match his Ip Man films, this is still a great action movie. The story is not all that original as it was the popular aspect of every action movie all over the world for some time. Yen doesn’t only bring the action he brings a certain amount of charisma that just shines on screen. It’s a cool chance to check him out in a modern film as opposed the period epics he has done of late. The action is top notch and goes a different direction. As opposed to the straight kung-fu, Yen displays a more mixed martial arts style here adding all new depth to the action. There is some amazing fight scenes in this film leading up to an adrenaline filled one on one fight that is amazing to watch.

If you are loved the Ip Man films or Yen himself, then you will not want to miss Flashpoint. It’s a great addition to any martial arts collection and nice to get to see Yen in another style of action that really shows his amazing prowess as the martial arts legend he really is.
