So with two kids on the verge of adolescence, I've pretty much hit up all the hotspots for fun in the city of Pittsburgh. I pride myself on getting creative with finding fun ways to spend our time, which isn't always easy being the only parent in the household. So with the days of summer winding down, the kids back from camp, and a precious day off for mom, we decided to head out of the city limits to Skyzone, in Leetsdale, PA. A relatively easy drive from the city, straight down Route 65, it took us a half hour to get there. Tucked away in an industrial park, we were anxious to see what Skyzone had to offer. And boy does it offer! Skyzone is a huge warehouse of connected trampolines, a trampoline foam ball pit, dodgeball trampoline, and a trampoline basketball hoop. Launched in 2007 in Las Vegas, Skyzone is now in seventeen states as well as Canada. Skyzone is great for all ages, and staffed amply by young adults who keep a keen eye on maintaining safety by keeping kids of like ages together. It's best to make reservations online ahead of time, as Skyzone operates by allowing kids to jump in increments of thirty minute time slots and requires parents or guardians to complete a liability waiver. Parents bringing children not their own must have signed waivers from all parents ahead of time, or one can go online to complete this form. The prices are reasonable, and the amount of fun kids have is immeasurable. Not to mention they are plenty tired by the time they get home!
The only downside of Skyzone is the jump shoes that are required of everyone to wear. On our first visit to Skyzone, the kids were allowed to jump barefoot. This made it more comfortable and easier to move around in their opinion. By our second visit, it was required that all jumpers wear shoes, to protect their ankles. As a mom, I understood this rationale, but the kids found the ankle high shoes to be restrictive and uncomfortable. However, this didn't stop them from having a ball, and jumping for sixty minutes straight!
I highly recommend a trip to Skyzone. It is worth the money, the drive, and it's an experience unlike many others.
