Do you remember the classic fairy tale story of Hansel and Gretel? The kids who were lost in the woods, stumble to a house made of candy that turns out to be the witch's house and eats children? You might want to refresh your memory on the classic children's tale before you go watch this movie, "Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters" directed and written by Tommy Workola. Starring the leading roles, Jeremy Renner as Hansel and and Gemma Arterton as Gretel. According to this movie, Hansel and Gretel became witch bounty hunters after they killed the witch in the candy house. With Hollywood movies these days, you just have to expect the unexpected spin to a fairy tale story. There are other classic children's stories in the past such as " Little Red Riding Hood", "Snow White" and many others that have been brought up in the big screen with a horror twist.
The movie is rated-R and has a mild gory moments like stabbing, head stomping, body explosion, heads being chopped off, tortures and many other creative ways to killing someone.
Overall, I give this movie a 4 out of 5 because of the action sequence and the humor. Even though I am not a big fan of gore and blood spill movies, it kept me entertained throughout the whole movie. The superbly skilled witches who were welled versed in martial arts fighting, special make up effects on the witches that captured the "scary witch look" and endless ammunition throughout the movie. It seemed like they had guns and bullets popping out whenever they needed it (where did it come from?) Anyway, this movie was funny and entertaining, a good night out with older kids and friends.
