One element that H&R Block has been pushing in their commercials lately is their 2nd look program. On the commercials they claim that they will review your previous years taxes for you and then refile for you if you are owed extra money.
I decided recently to try this out myself. Last year I worked part time for myself and the rest of the time for an employer. Because I worked for myself part of the time, I had the employer take out additional money along with the standard tax deduction to help to offset how much money I would owe the government at the end of the year. My tax professional that I went to last year seemed more interested in telling me what I COULD NOT do, versus what I could when it came to tax credits and deductions. Overall, she seemed irritated every time that I asked a question.
So after seeing the H&R Block commercial, I decided to have them to look over my taxes from 2011 for me. I actually chatted with a REAL CPA that they have working in their offices and used my iPhone app for H&R Block to upload all of my documents by taking pictures of them. I opted out of going into an office and did everything online through chat, though you do have the option of actually going into an H&R Block office.
The process was quick and easy and they found that there were credits and deductions that I qualified for the previous year. So now I am expecting money back on top of my 2012 tax refund.
The best part about the entire process? Its entirely FREE for them to take a 2nd look at your taxes for you. You only pay if there is a discrepancy and you would like for them to refile for you. If you think that you should have gotten more of a tax refund in previous years, I highly recommend this service!
