Disney has been churning out the classics as of late, bringing numerous films out of their famed vault to Blu-ray. Their latest swinging their way out of the vault is 1999s Tarzan featuring the voice talents of Glenn Close, Minnie Driver, Tony Goldwyn, Lance Henriksen, and Rosie O’Donnell coming to Blu-ray for the first time.
Tarzan brings to life the legendary story of a small orphan who was raised by an ape since he was a child. He believed that this was his family, but on an expedition Jane Porter is rescued by him and he then finds out that he's human. Now Tarzan must make the decision as to which family he should belong to. This is one of those films that the back drop of this world is just as important as the story itself to make it all work. While it has always looked great, this hi-def release is beautifully vibrant and really steps things up in this film. The animation is top notch with a use of classically designed animal characters yet some modern takes on the the human character without ever getting too out there. The story sticks to the origin tale along with some new twists and turns making for a great entry into the legend of this iconic character. This is one of Disney’s better films to be released over the years thanks partly due to the subject matter, but aligned with great voice work, beautiful scenery and some great animation one that is a must have for any collection.
It is no doubt to why this film won so many awards and spawned an animated series, but now you can bring home the original to add to your collection like never before. Besides the film, this release includes numerous special features including deleted scenes, a music video, and numerous featurettes making this a must have for any fan of Disney films or the legend that is Tarzan. Swing out and grab your copy of Tarzan on Blu-ray when it hits stores on August 12th.
