Disney is known for their infamous vault of films. For those that have been living in a vault themselves and do not know what it is, it’s where they store all their movies and periodically re-release them in various formats. This brilliant tradition has made Disney films not only maintain their classic feel and nature, but also keeps from watering down the market. These Blu-ray releases sport high definition with restored picture and sound, as well as numerous special features. The latest getting the treatment isn’t a film, but instead the 30th Anniversary Edition of Mickey’s Christmas Carol.
This film only runs about 30 minutes and anyone that knows the story of the Christmas Carol already knows this one and most likely has seen this classic. While it is titled Mickey’s Christmas Carol, this is actually Scrooge McDuck’s film, which obviously makes sense. Like with most of these kinds of specials this film sports appearances of some kind by all your favorite Mickey friends. This edition of the story executes it brilliantly, even making a bit scary at times as it was meant to be without going too far and still keeping it light hearted. The hi-def transfer is beautiful showcasing this classic artwork style that is all but lost these days. While the primary film itself isn’t all that long, have no fear there are some great bonus shorts that more than make up for it, all in high def as well and packing in more fun for any fan.
This special edition Blu-ray release not only includes the holiday classic, but don’t forget the above mentioned shorts including “The Hockey Champ”, “Pluto’s Christmas Tree”, “The Art of Skiing”, “Corn Chips” and the all-new short “Yodelberg” as well as the Disney Intermission feature where the film comes to life while paused for even more entertainment. No Disney collection will be complete without some Mickey Mouse and what better than this Christmas classic, so be sure to grab your copy of this Christmas classic when Mickey’s Christmas Carol hits stores on November 5th.
