Disney is known for their infamous vault of films. For those that have been living in a vault and do not know what it is, it’s where they store all their movies and periodically re-release them in various formats. This brilliant tradition has made Disney films not only maintain their classic feel and nature, but also keeps from watering down the market. Known as their Diamond Edition’s, these Blu-ray releases sport high definition with restored picture and sound, as well as numerous special features.
The latest stepping out of the vault is 1967s The Jungle book. If you have been too civilized to step into the jungle to see this film it follows a young boy, Mowgli raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. When the wolves hear that the fierce tiger, Shere Kahn, is nearby, they decide to send Mowgli to a local "man tribe". On his way to the village, Mowgli meets many animal characters in this musical tale. When Shere Kahn learns of Mowgli's presence, he tracks him down. This is easily one of the most recognizable of all the Disney films. It’s crazy how many people may or may not have seen this film, but still knows all the music. This latest hi-def release looks excellent and takes a film that holds up already and makes it look and feel like it was just recently made as opposed to being from the 60s. This might be the best looking restoration of their films to date. The classic artwork and characters blend the popular animal styles and human characters to one cohesive classic film that is just as good today as the day it was released if not better.
This blu-ray not only includes the beautiful hi-def transfer of the film, but also numerous special features including sing-along, alternate ending, special introductions, behind the scenes and so much more. Disney fans will not want to miss out when Mowgli swings out of the jungle and into your home when The Jungle Book Diamond Edition hits stores on February 11th.
