There’s a newcomer in the box wine arena with a simple, albeit quirky name that is sure to get attention.
“it." – a Chardonnay from “Lodi Rules” sustainable vineyards – is packaged in an eye-catching green box that holds the equivalent of four 750 ml bottles (20 glasses) of wine. The varietal is modestly priced at $19 which means each 5 oz. glass is about 95 cents.
The golden-colored wine is a traditional big, oaky and buttery Chardonnay selection with no grassy, citrus essences. The wine has a pineapple and floral nose and a smooth beginning and long finish. The French oak aging results in a ground swell of vanilla and sweet spice.
Store the “it” box in the refrigerator for by-the-glass fresh pour each time. The internal bladder locks out air and sunlight which denigrates wine in glass bottles.
This wine has enough body to stand up to more flavorful dishes such as herb baked chicken, crusted halibut creamy pasta dishes or cracked crab with clarified butter.
Fiery spice infused dishes will not pair well with the vanilla in the wine so use caution when choosing dishes that would compliment and not clash.
“it” is available in many Northern California Costco locations.
