Dirty Rotten Scoundrels review and upcoming celebrity week

Usually this writer attends the “Gala Evening Show” (the first Friday night of any performance at the Alhambra Theater& Dining in Jacksonville, Florida); but opening night allows one to see the trials and errors of the run for any show, nonetheless Dirty Rotten Scoundrelsdid pretty good.

Two chartered buses were parked close to the building and 105 Jewish War Veterans almost filled the theatre.  The group had a conference that was held in JAX this particular week and their evening entertainment was The Alhambra.  The group seemed to enjoy themselves and left the building happily conversing about their evening.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is not for young children and the script has been modified to make it suitable for adults (much of the cursing has been removed).  The scene changes were smoothly completed on the new stationary stage.  Musical numbers blended well among the ensemble.  Costumes are very colorful, and well designed.

Mr. Booth’s performance was that of a veteran actor who hasn’t lost his skills for being before a crowd.  His diction is crystal clear and resembles that of John Lithgow.  He maintained character even when he had a little tickle in his throat – the show must go on and it did.

Seven local celebrities will perform on the Alhambra's stage during the second annual "Celebrity Week" starting August 30.  During each performance of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, a different celebrity will make an appearance in the show.  Each celebrity has aligned with the charity of their choice, and 10% of the tickets sales from that show will go to the designated organization.  Plus, a bonus donation to the organization will be made on behalf of the celebrity who draws the biggest crowd.
