Taurasi DOCG wines from Italy’s Campania region have been compared to Barolo, Italy’s “King of Wine” produced in the northern region of Piedmont. Taurasi wines are made from the grape Aglianico and must be aged for at least three years before it is released and at least one of those years in oak barrels.
Diomede Taurasi, DOCG, 2009 is dark garnet red. It has aromas of violets, dark fruit, baking spices, leather and wet slate. The palate follow the nose, this is very dry and benefits from sitting in the glass and being swirled to help it open up. The tannins are firm and it has a long dry finish. This is definitely a food wine and especially a wine that calls for meat. A grilled rib eye or braised short ribs would go perfectly with the Diomede Taurasi.
