Amidst four other coffee shops in less than a half mile radius, one university-area coffee shop stands out above the rest. Kaladi Brothers Coffee is known for both it's exceptional in-house-roasted coffee, and it's environmentally friendly approach to business.
Their secret lies in a unique roasting technique, known as a Single Pass Fluid Bed Fresh Air Roasting, unlike traditional barrel roasting, which can often result in burnt beans and a bitter flavor, this strategy relies on hot air to roast the green coffee beans, resulting in an even smooth flavored batch. Using this roasting approach also allows for what they call "precise roasting", meaning they can target a specific temperature to acheive the utmost consistency between in their light roast and dark roast blends. In other words, you can have the same exquisite cup of coffee every single time.
The staff is enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable. They will gladly walk you through the characteristics of each and every blend on their list. Much like a sommeleir, they can find you the perfect coffee for your palate, or even match your cup to your breakfast preferences.
It is all about the coffee here, aside from a few sweet pastry choices, the menu consists of mostly coffee shop staples. Their cappuccino is as close to Italy as you can find here in Denver. They also have a great selection of loose leaf teas.
Located near the University of Denver, you can expect the shop to be filled to capacity with college students and the occasional local. There is limited seating, particularly towards the end of the term, but the tantalizing smell and warm ambiance makes it worth while to try and find a table. If you would rather not make the trip, you can order pounds of coffee from their website.
