The Denver Art Museum has several fun, hands-on areas for really young children. I had no idea some areas were geared for toddlers. Check out their Kids & Family areas and activities throughout the month
This past Friday morning was our first time going. Decided to check it out after seeing an image my friend posted of her child practically covered in paint enjoying one of the exhibits. Hey! We are down for that! So, we went Friday, ready for fun, and prepared with a change of clothes. Right down to the shoes.
We had so much fun on Friday, that we went again on Sunday with some friends to check out Totspot!
Totspot takes place every 2nd Sunday of the month, geared towards toddlers up to age 5, with special programing and performances by actors from Buntport Theater. To find the location of Totspot for that month, each child gets their own special flyer with clues and directions on how to get to the location.
There's plenty of areas to explore as well. Areas for building with large blocks, making your own mask, dressing up in cultural costumes or as an animal, and get messy! Real messy!
Hands down my daugher's favorite area was the studio. A place where she could put on a paint covered smock and go to town with a paint brush and bucket full of paint to decorate some toddler size statues.
After spending two mornings at the Denver Art Museum this weekend, we got a membership!
Note to Parents - The Denver Art Museum family activities brochure is a little misleading. It states the Totspot is from 10am-12noon. However, the museum doesn't open until 10am. If you're one of those people who has learned to allow 1/2 an hour of time to get to somewhere, understanding anything can happen when getting young kids out the door or traveling with them, don't stress getting there. You'll be waiting outside.
But there is a Mad Greens across the way, where you can wait, that makes some very good hot chocolate!
