“This Woman’s Work” is the July 24 episode of “Defiance.” Warning: this article does contain spoilers. “Defiance” airs Thursday nights at 7 p.m. CT on Syfy.

Nolan and Niles go to track down a ship that has crashed to Earth. This storyline is a tad confusing. It’s hard to figure out who exactly is after them, aside from he/she being an alien. There isn't much of a background on the alien race or why he/she was locked up. The main point of this storyline seems to be to serve the purpose of getting Tommy to quit and punishing Niles. Viceroy Berto Mercado is not happy with Niles’ performance, which is ridiculously unreasonable. Odds are, Niles is no one’s favorite character, but it is hard not to feel bad for the guy.

Stahma is the only Castithan woman that the writers focus on, so she doesn't seem that unusual. Yeah, she can be a real jerk, and not to mention a murderer, but she never comes off as being a forward thinking Castithan. Datak is just as ruthless as she is, so it’s not like he is a good example of Castithan values. This episode shows just how different Stahma is. The scene with the other Castithan wives is absolutely fantastic. It is a great way to show how Castithan traditions are valued, and what wives think of their position in the household.

Tommy and Irisa have a little chat. Well, it’s more like Tommy sees Irisa doing her murdering but not murdering thing. Hopefully Irisa will continue to confide in Tommy and work out what is going on with her. Tommy can ask the questions that the audience has been wanting to know. The writers still haven’t explained the purpose of killing people and bringing them back to life under Irzu’s protection. The little chat where Tommy opens up about Berlin is great. The Irisa and Tommy friendship has been missed. They have great chemistry. What’s your theory on why Irzu murders people to bring them back?

What did you think of the episode? Is anyone else kinda loving Nolan and Berlin or do you think she belongs with Tommy? Leave me your thoughts in a comment below.
