The world’s obsession with zombies seems to be growing without bounds. With interest at an all-time high, it only seems right that there be some guides for living the lifestyle of the living dead. “Dead Sexy” by Paula Conway is here to serve as that guide. I was intrigued by the idea so I decided to read the book and see what exactly is needed to lead an undead existence.
“Dead Sexy” starts with some background on zombies in popular culture going back to their origins and up through current touchstones such as “The Walking Dead” and the Max Brooks novels. The author details how she came to be enamored by zombies and includes a section about zombies in Marvel Comics by one of the contributors. With this background being established, the book then moves into the lifestyle section of how to live and undead lifestyle.
The book then continues to present an exhaustive list of products available (along with many special offers) for all zombie enthusiasts, both zombies and the survivors. Since the book is written as if zombies walked among us, there is some satirical writing as to how the products will be useful to zombies as well as people and even people who want to get closer, or even date, a zombie. From fashion to clothing and even travel, the book covers all aspects of living the undead lifestyle.
“Dead Sexy” was not really what I was expecting nor is it what I was looking for in a book. Still, the background material on zombies was interesting enough and some of the items offered in the book, which is largely just a catalogue for zombie related products were interesting enough and really is a comprehensive resource for this type of product. If you are looking for a source for all things zombie that can be purchased for a special event, like a Halloween party, or just for everyday living, then this is a good source. There are even special promotions for readers of the book that will save you money on some of these products. If that is not what you want, then skip this one.
I would like to give a special thank you to NetGalley and Riverdale Avenue Books for this review copy. “Dead Sexy” is available now.
