Superman Doomed # 1

Superman has faced countless villains over the years but none that have caused more pain and suffering to the Man of Steel than Doomsday. After numerous encounters you would think there isn’t much more pain that this unstoppable character could deliver, but that is about to change with Superman Doomed # 1.

In the series Doomsday is sporting deadly new abilities and Superman must unleash insane levels of power in order to stop him, only to terrify the world he’s saving. Beating Doomsday is only the beginning of this never ending battle! This issue wastes no time getting right into the action to showcase that this is not the same Doomsday that has wreaked havoc in the past. At the same time the heroes jump right into the story to take on the behemoth and within this single issue it becomes all-out war. The look of Doomsday sticks to the classic design, but showcases more of the trademark spikes that make him look even cooler than he already was. The actual story side of it is pretty simple and just serves to set up this sure to be epic storyline. Despite the appearances of other members of the Justice League to take on Doomsday it is Superman’s moment of unleashing his rage in a toe to toe battle that not only redeems the past between the two, but also shows that this is going to be a much bigger issue than you may have expected.

This is a great beginning to what is sure to be another great story arc between these two titans of the DC Universe. Ken Lashley’s art looks excellent, but it’s his page layouts, especially the last few pages that really sell it as a whole. Be there as the epic war kicks off with Superman Doomed # 1.
