After the launch of the New 52 series Batman, the seeds were planted for an epic battle between the Dark Knight and Court of Owls. Throughout those first seven issues Batman’s world was forever rocked after his ordeal with facing off against the Court but it doesn’t end there. Not only did the story continue beyond those first 7 issues, it spawned an all-new crossover that affected the entire Bat-universe and now it’s been collected into one hardcover graphic novel Batman: Night of Owls.
In this collected volume the Court of Owls has unleashed an attack across Gotham City against corruption through violence and it’s up to not only Batman, but the rest of the family including Robin, Nightwing, Batwing, The Birds of Prey, Batgirl, and Red Hood and the Outlaws. Unlike most collection just featuring s collection from one series, this one spans the entire crossover including all the various Batman titles, as well as the other individual titles of each of the characters. In addition most of these issues are happening simultaneously connected by an urgent message sent out via Alfred. This was clearly a well-crafted story that works great together as one story and never forces you to really need to read any of other issues in the respected series. While the first part of this story in the previous issues pushed the limits of Batman, this one manages to test everyone in this universe and really gives each of them a moment to shine while connecting everything together in a really brilliant way. In addition the connections they have made using this centuries old group with some of the characters and showcasing it through various timelines including a story featuring Jonah Hex gives it the depth it needs to believe they have always been around. In addition the great story the book features some amazing art from Greg Capullo, David Finch, Tony S. Daniel, and many more.
