After the launch of the New 52 series Batman, the seeds were planted for an epic battle between the Dark Knight and Court of Owls. Throughout those first seven issues Batman’s world was forever rocked after his ordeal with facing off against the Court but it doesn’t end there. Not only did the story continue beyond those first 7 issues, it spawned an all-new crossover that affected the entire Bat-universe. With this all-new collected edition Volume 2 The Night of Owls it collects issues 8-12 to deliver the finale to this epic crossover.
In The City of Owls, the Court has unleashed their assassins the Talons on Gotham and Batman must uncover their dark secrets to not only protect his city, but also the history of the Wayne family. Once again this books continues to amaze. Once again Scott Snyder delivers one of the more intriguing storylines in Batman history taking the Dark Knight in directions not usually seen both emotionally and physically. In addition it continues to delve deeper into the history of the Wayne’s as well as Dick Grayson to add new depth to the overall mythology of this universe. Add to that the always brilliant beautiful art of Greg Capullo and you have another amazing edition to the Batman world. Capullo has a unique ability to tell a story through his art that at times the dialogue is almost unnecessary, yet still keeps it fresh and giving it that old school comic feel. He has become the man behind the bat even more so than Wayne himself and the comic gods permit will be with the character for quite some time.
This beautiful hardcover collection not only features the issues 8-12 of this great series, it also features Batman Annual # 1 to deliver a more complete storyline. As if this wasn’t enough it also delivers a variant cover gallery from Jason Fabok & Peter Steigerwald, Dale Keown & FCO Plascencia, Rafael Albuquerque, Andy Clarke & Tomeu Morey, and Bryan Hitch & Nathan Fairbairn.
