After the New 52 re-launch they revamped pretty much every aspect of the DC Universe it seemed like everything before it was going to be forgotten. While this is true for the most part, Batman Incorporated didn’t sway to far from its original story, just continuing the same story with the altered elements of the new continuity and characters into the series. Now DC is giving you the chance to go back where it all began with the new Batman Incorporated softcover graphic novel.
Batman Incorporated follows Batman after the events of Batman R.I.P, Final Crisis, Batman and Robin and The Return of Bruce Wayne where, after being stranded in the distant past and believed dead, Bruce Wayne has returned to the present day DC Universe. Now, he is prepared to take his war on crime to the next level, by essentially "franchising" it and drafting, training and commanding a global team of heroes who will answer to Batman himself called Batman Incorporated. They took an interesting approach to this series to deliver new international stories, but some with a classic look and feel. The series is broken into a couple of stories, while keeping the overall theme of building Batman Incorporated. The stories move forward at a decent pace and all over the place, but works to deliver a fun new twist to the Batman mythology. As you move through the story, each look and feel changes to fit with the direction and the character that Batman is dealing with. There is so much great artwork here, that it showcases a few of the weaker issues a bit more. As individual issues they surely delivered amazing results, but when directly transitioning from issue to issue it can at times take you out of the story and be a bit hard to get back into it. Regardless this book takes an in-depth new direction of the world of Batman that surprisingly wasn’t done years ago.
Overall this is a great book and addition to any Batman collection. More importantly this is an important piece of Batman history has it steps up the game of his war on crime that looks to change the game in so many ways. This graphic novel collects the first 8 issues of the original series as well as the one-shot Leviathan Strikes! The book features artwork by Yanick Paquette, Chris Burnham, Scott Clark, and Cameron Stewart along with the always great writings of Grant Morrison. As if this wasn’t enough to make you want this book it also features character bios and misc. stages of various cover art. The softcover Batman Incorporated graphic novel is available now, so get out and pick yours up today.
