Batman and Robin Volume 3: Death of the Family

One of the biggest stories in the Bat-Universe marked the return of the Joker. They planted the seed for this story arc early on and then seemingly just dropped it. After quite some time they came full circle bringing the story back into the fold and kicked off one of the darkest and best Joker story arc’s to date. Now Damian’s side of the story is collected in the latest hardcover Batman and Robin Volume 3: Death of the Family that not only collects Batman and Robin 15-17, but also includes Batman 17 and Batman and Robin Annual # 1.

Batman and Robin Volume 3: Death of the Family marks the terrifying return of the Joker and he’s more dangerous than ever before. But when Batman is under the Joker’s control, Damian must put it all on the line to face off against the Joker to not only stop him but to save Batman before it’s too late. Some of the best stories ever delivered feature the Joker front and center like the classic Killing Joke. This story might be the best Joker storyline to date and is easily the most disturbing on some level. This is the Joker that fans have been waiting for and one that is pure evil. Sure there is a level of the comedic aspect still there, but this Joker comes more at you like a horror flick instead of the clown prince and it works brilliantly. This direction of the story showcases Damian in the lead trying to take on the Joker and proves once again why he is easily the coolest Robin to come along in years. Patrick Gleason’s art knocks it out of the park to bring together the great story from Peter Tomasi. They have added some great emotional turmoil to go along with the action to continue to create another dimension to this already brilliant story line. Everything here leads to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre like ending in Batman # 17 from Greg Capullo and Scott Snyder. The aftermath of the story is perfectly capped off with a story showing how it affected them all taking fans even further inside the emotional aspect of the characters rarely seen.

This beautiful hardcover collection not only features these great issues of the series, it also delivers an unused cover from Patrick Gleason as well as numerous sketches and page layouts. You do not want to miss out on what is easily the best Joker story arc in years so be sure to grab your Batman and Robin: Volume 3 Death of the Family available now.
