Prepare Ye for a spirited romp through Judeo-Christian text as GODSPELL spreads the word at the Marriott Theatre. This colorful, high energy production brings the messages of the Bible about hope, understanding and love thy neighbor to life through parables, rap and comedic sketches.

The musical opened on Broadway in 1971, originally conceived and directed by John-Michael Tebelak, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, composer of Wicked and Pippin. Marriott Director and Choreographer Matt Raftery has created a fresh, intimate production, infusing it with contemporary references to "Tweet That," "Obamacare" and an opening number with cell phones, obviously not even conceived of in the original script. The score is happily upbeat with such memorable tunes as "Day By Day," "Light of The World" and "By My Side" and you will surely leave the theater singing. It is one delightful. yet meaningful show.

GODSPELL features a small cast, allowing you to share a sense of community with the actors on stage. Brian Bohr stars as “Jesus” (Joseph in Joseph at the Marriott Theatre) and his sweet voice is both charismatic and humble. As “Judas/John the Baptist, Devin DeSantis conveys a sense of caring, then betrayal.

The set design is bright and colorful, evoking a sense of paradise and the Garden of Eden. The GODSPELL production team is led by the Marriott Theatre’s Lead Artistic Director Aaron Thielen. Set Design is by Tom Ryan, Costume Coordination by Erin Wuorenma. The Marriott Theatre orchestra is conducted by Musical Supervisor Patti Garwood.

The show runs through August 10 at the Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Drive in Lincolnshire, IL.The performance schedule is Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 4:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. No performances July 2-6.
