Dark Horse Star Wars # 2 review

Over the years Dark Horse has been keeping the Star Wars Universe alive in the world of comics delivering stories across a wide spectrum of the world created by George Lucas. Now they have taken things back to the old school with the aptly titled Star Wars # 1 from writer Brian Wood and artist Carlos D’Anda. Can they capture the same magic and deliver something new to the fans to revitalize the Star Wars comic world?

Star Wars follows the events of the Battle of Yavin and the destruction of the first Death Star. Now the Rebels are searching for a new home while struggling to find new allies and supplies to continue their fight against the crippled Empire. With issue 2 fears arise there may be a spy among the Rebel ranks, when an Imperial Star Destroyer unexpectedly intercepts an Alliance scouting mission. Now Leia must form a secret team, find a new base, and uncover the spy without anyone knowing what she is up to. Once again these guys have delivered a hell of an issue. The story continues to push forward with epic proportions while keeping the stories simple and to the point. What makes this work even more than the personal insiders look at to what these characters are up to is the attention to simple detail of the whole experience. The visuals once again are brilliant to look at with so much attention to detail that is sucks you into the already great story. Wood continues to keep the story moving heading into directions fans have been curious about while keeping the depth of the characters intact. Much like the previous issue you are given just enough dialogue needed to movie it along, but still allows D’Anda’s art tell the tale.

While the first issue set a new standard for the genre comics and continues to do so with this latest issue. This issue proves there are lots of intriguing twists and turns to come as this series takes us on the untold journey to Hoth and the events in The Empire Strikes Back.
