Dark Horse Buffy The Vampire Slayer Library Edition Vol. 3 review (Photos)

After the seventh and final season of the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans thought it may be the end. The series ended in grand fashion, but also left things open to various directions it could go. In 2007 Dark Horse Comics debuted the new comic series Buffy the Vampire Slayer season eight featuring some of the stories written by creator Joss Whedon. The series ran from 2007-2011 before starting anew with season 9, but now you can catch up with the series with these cool Library Edition Hardcover collections.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Library Edition Vol. 3 collects issues #21-#30 and features Buffy starting to experience Twilight’s reach through the growing mass of popularity of vampires complete with a spokesperson in a reality TV show, Harmony. At the same time Faith continues on her journey to help other directionless Slayers and Slayer Simone has come back into the Scoobies’ radar. If that wasn’t enough issues to deal with Dawn is still dealing with her ongoing growing pains. Much like the previous issues this series continues to go in a direction that’s sure to delight the most hardcore of Buffy fans. The stories head directions that the series could have never gone in scope, thus helping the characters to grow into new directions in regards to not only their surroundings but the situations that life has put them in. While Whedon didn’t have his hand in the writing of these issues of the series, have no fear they were in good hands with the likes of Steven S. DeKnight, Jane Espenson and more. The series sports artwork by various artists including Jo Chen who delivers some amazing cover art. As with this series it helps to be a fan of the series to catch on to how they got to where they are and who some of the random characters are, but at the same time it is written so well that most newbies can continue to jump onboard and catch on fairly easy. This is another great collection of stories from the Buffyverse that will having you craving for more as these issues head into a full on war complete with Gods like you’ve never seen and a must have for any Buffy fan.

This beautiful collection is not like your usual hardcover collection. This book not only comes packed with the standard dust jacket cover, but underneath the book itself is printed with some great artwork onto an oversized hardcover book with some really thick high quality edition that looks more collectable than readable. In addition to the comic stories included this book also sports a cover gallery section and some really cool sketch pages complete with text telling a bit about what went into the piece and character designs. Besides collecting issues #21-#30 of Season 8, this collection also feature stories from MySpace Dark Horse Presents, “Harmony Bites”, “Harmony Comes to the Nation”, and “Vampy Cat Play Friend”.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer Library Edition Vol. 3 is available now from Dark Horse Comics.
