Damn Yankees

Baseball season is in full swing in 1955 and poor Joe Boyd's Washington Senators can't catch a break. What the fans wouldn't do for a long ball hitter and a chance to beat that team from the Bronx, including making a deal with the devil. Light Opera Works opens their season with DAMN YANKEES,the 1955 Broadway musical, now playing through Sunday, June 15. at Cahn Auditorium in Evanston.

With a memorable score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, you'll be singing right along with "You Gotta Have Heart" and "Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets," accompanied by a 28-piece orchestra. Mr. Applegate (a.k.a. The Devil) is mischievously played by L.O.W.'s own artistic director, Rudy Hogenmiller who steals the show whenever he's on stage. Although one must give credit to the voluptuous Lola, played by Erica Evans, last seen as Annie Oakley in "Annie Get Your Gun" who sings and dances her way into your heart as well. Brian Acker as the young baseball player, Joe Hardy is handsome with strong vocals. And the cast of characters on the baseball team will keep you laughing.

DAMN YANKEES won the Tony Award for Best Musical and originally starred Ray Walston and Gwen Verdon with choreography by Bob Fosse.

Bring your dad, bring you brother, bring your kids. Actually, the story of a downtrodden baseball team continues to ring true on both sides of our city. But this is one play that's a sure winner!

Light Opera Works' season continues with FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (August 9 -24), COLE PORTER'S GREATEST HITS (October 3 - 12) and THE MERRY WIDOW (DECEMBER 19-31). For tickets, call 847-920-5360 or
