Once a month or so, Dallas Bites! branches out and opens up spots on the bus for a truly unique and tasty trek-the Bacon Tour.
This time around the tour was lead by Steven Doyle of Crave DFW. The meet-up at the Garden Cafe on Junius Street began with a crash course on how bacon is made, complete with a variety of enticing samples from Bacon Bloody Marys, to bacon ice cream to bacon donuts, provided by Hypnotic Donuts. It is simply miraculous that there was still more bacon in store for us.
After the Garden Cafe, we made a pit stop at Dough Pizzeria in North Dallas to sample pancetta pizza, the pancetta cured Italian-style as well as freshly made buretta, resembling a mozzarella 'purse.' The pizza at Dough is not only featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, but is cooked in a one-of-a-kind 900 degree brick oven, leaving the crust thin and perfectly crispy and light.
From there, the tour went to Zen Bistro in Deep Ellum briefly to sample cake balls, flavored with bacon-well rounded in salivary seduction and sugary sweetness.
Last, but certainly not least, the bus swung by Garland High School to find the infamous food truck Unforsacon Bacon armed and dangerously salty-delicious. Thick BLT's were dealt out with fresh fries and bacon antecdotes. Unforsacon Bacon serves bacon up thick and meaty, proving to be the main act, with the rest of the meal its backup dancers.
So, do you think you can handle the most creative and crafty bacon concoctions in DFW? Keep an eye out when for the Bacon Tour returns. Until then, Dallas Bites!/Dallas By Chocolate has plenty of scrumptious options. The Bread and Soup Tour will be on March 16th, as well as the Munchable Mystery Tour. March 23rd brings two unique options, the Dallas' Best BBQ Tour and the Bellisimo! Taste of Italy Tour. Sign up online soon before the bus fills up.
