Best Scene This Week:
We loved the Fraternity Row scenes and the responses of the people in Llanview who were watching the fictional show, and who couldn’t appreciate the “déjà vu all over again” parallels between our original visit to Paris, Texas and this trip, but thank goodness we finally got to see Viki embroiled in an emotional conflict concerning her love life. How perfect was it that she went straight to the Buenos Dias and found Noelle? (Déjà vu all over again?)
When Viki barged in to the restaurant her old friend was quick to ask what was wrong, to which a very frustrated Viki replied, “Two words. Clint Buchanan.”
Noelle had an immediate response. “That’s why I always say exes should be seen and not heard and sometimes not even seen.”
Unfortunately, the advice didn’t work in Viki’s situation. “Yeah, well, that’s not an option when your ex is under house arrest and lives in your own house,” Viki quipped.
Noelle still wanted to help. “Alright, well, you need to do three things. Sit. Breathe. And tell me what Clint did this time.”
“Noelle, it’s so bad,” Viki told her dramatically.
“How bad?”
“He kissed me!” Viki exclaimed as if to tattletale.
Of course, honorable mention for "scene of the week" has to be given to Roxy’s plea for Clint to save Fraternity Row from cancellation. Clint’s business-like response seemed all too familiar to riveted fans, and Roxy’s passion was cheer-worthy. Nigel summed it up. "A simple, ‘No thank you,’ would have sufficed."
Eye Roll of the Week:
Was it the fact that Viki didn’t immediately enter the Bonjour Café with Rex, going back to help Shane settle in at the hotel? How convenient to the plot!
Or was it the cliché Texan welcoming Gigi to the “Bon-jshur?”
Or was it Viki calling Clint a “cliché?” Talk about déjà vu all over again! Where have we heard that line before?
Character of the Week:
Once again, props go to Victoria! (How ironic was it when multiple-Emmy winning actress Erika Slezak portrayed Viki insisting on what a terrible actress she was while holding Megan’s Daisy Award?) Viki’s world spun a bit and she seemed to forget all about her brother’s woes as she bonded with Clint over Fraternity Row and enjoyed a shared kiss before finding out that he thought Kim wasn’t going to return. Who couldn’t understand her frustration – or Clint’s for that matter? When she found out that Noelle was entering a pie dedicated to Gigi in a bake-off in Paris, Texas, Viki both sincerely wanted to support Noelle and sincerely get away from Clint! He called her bluff by stepping out of the house and letting his ankle monitor alarm sound, and in true cowgirl fashion she told her ex-husband to “tell it to the police” and spun on her heels to leave.
Quote of the Week:
“These damn writers – those writers are messing with my Brianna!” – Clint
Honorable Mention: “Great soap and great bakin’ do not mix.” – Noelle
Dialogue of the Week:
Roxy: Baby, you gotta chill. You can’t worry about what happened before. You gotta worry about what’s gonna happen tomorrow.”
Rama: I wanna know what happens now. I can’t wait till tomorrow.
Roxy: Well, it’ll come soon enough, cause it ain’t goin’ nowhere. Fraternity Row is an institution. [Scream!]
Rama: What happened?
Roxy: Canceled!!!
Questions This Week:
So, Noelle is back? Working at the Buenos Dias?
Wait. When did Gigi’s hair turn brown again?
Why isn’t Blair suspicious about how Todd always shows up at all the most “convenient” times?
Are John and Tea the new Llanview ultimate crime-fighting team?
Did Viki forget that she might run into Charlie in Paris, Texas?
Who is on Viki’s side? And who is on Clint’s?
And will Clint prove Viki right once he and Kim figure out their miscommunication?
Fail of the Week:
Fraternity Row being canceled is just atrocious. And how frustrating that we have to wait until next week to keep watching!
Success of the Week:
The reintroduction of Fraternity Row and the parallels between the fictional soap and One Life to Live were genius. The reactions of Llanview’s citizens to the show mirrored those of soap aficionados, even down to their forgetting what they were doing and talking to the TV. Fraternity Row’s opener led in to One Life to Live’s as if to underscore their similarities. There were references to the Eterna storyline and other memorable happenings like the exploding cake and two lovers who might turn out to be related. (Raise your hand if you remember that!) Sadly, even some of the most influential fans of Fraternity Row were cold about its cancelation, but it was clear that the fans with the biggest hearts weren’t going to let it go without a fight.
