The CW's compelling drama, Beauty and Beast which stars Smallville's very own Kristin Kreuk and New Zealand actor, Jay Ryan, is airing its second half of its first season since September 2012.
The story begins with Catherine Chandler (Kreuk) who witnesses her mother's murder as a teen, and is finds she is about to suffer the same fate when she is chased into the woods. That's when the beast (Ryan) intervenes just as the killers are about to shoot her, and runs off afterward without a word. It isn't until nine years later when Catherine, who is now a detective working with the LAPD, stumbles on a case that reveals the fingerprints of a man who is supposed to be dead. She later discovers this man, who has not only been following her for nine years, but is the same creature that saved her all those years ago, and goes by the name of Vincent Keller (Ryan).
Later on Vincent tells Catherine his story, of being the result of a military experiment that went horribly wrong. He signs up to be a test subject for Muirfield and fight as a super soldier in the war in Afghanistan, but whenever these soldiers experienced intense emotions in battle they would change into hideous monsters. Due to this unforeseen side effect Muirfield sees it best to terminate the project, along with everyone and everything to do with it. It turns out they were the very people that killed Catherine's mother all those years ago, and now they want Vincent.
Meanwhile Vincent has been living in the city, secretly playing the undercover vigilante and saving those who are in need, explaining his mysterious fingerprints that Catherine finds in past cases. From that point on Catherine decides to protect her savior at all costs, bringing the two to work together on investigations, and ultimately becoming closer with their undeniable feelings for each other.
It's a series that's loosely based on the version with Linda Hamilton and Ron Pearlman, they've kept the main characters names but the back story is their own. Right now the series is getting intense because Vincent has accidentally killed the brother of Catherine's boss, and is now a wanted man. This is also the point where he and Catherine have just had their first kiss, so it promises to be a nail-biting, on-the-edge-of-your-seat, heart stopping drama. Twitter fans have expressed their admiration and support for the show, but it still needs more from fans. It's a very good show that paces itself well, especially the romance between the two main characters. Their first kiss taking half a season shows promise of a more realistic approach, rather than rushing things. It's a good way to keep fans hooked and to allure more and more people. The writers being women it's no wonder this is turning into a great must-see drama.
