Seventy7 is located in the recently renovated vibrant heart of Culver City just behind Rocco’s Tavern, its sister restaurant. This is a sexy, classic cocktail lounge that harkens back to a Roaring 20’s speakeasy. The vibe is very relaxed and comfortable with a magnificent bar fully stocked with high end spirits and to our surprise more varieties of Absinthe than we have ever seen.
General Manager and cocktail list creator Matthew Goldberg has worked at such recognized establishments such as Flint's & Shane on Main in Santa Monica, The Whiskey in NYC, and Mercbar in SoHo. He has a special expertise with Absinthe which Seventy7 serves in both cocktails and traditionally from Absinthe fountains similar to those used during the Belle Epoque era in the cafes of Paris. How cool is that?
On our visit Matthew delighted us with a spectacular round of cocktails which included the Velvet Underground (Champagne, Velvet Falernum and Crème de Violette), Peter Piper (Hendrick’s gin, fresh dill, cucumber, pickle juice, crème fraiche and a baby gerkin), East LA Café (Rum Chata, Pearl Coconut Vodka, rhubarb bitters and cinnamon), Jack and the Beanstalk (Gentlemen Jack, Carpano Antica vermouth, muddled watermelon, vanilla bean syrup) and a Traditional Absinthe Service (Lucid Absinthe, water and sugar). We loved all of the drinks but if you like licorice you will particularly go for the Absinthe!
Paired with the drinks Matthew served us a bevy of super yummy small plates which included an Arugula and Goat Cheese Salad (Fresh arugula, sliced tear drop cherry tomatoes, chopped pecans, goat cheese crumbles and blackberries with a light mustard vinaigrette), Charcuterie Plate (a delectable selection of fine meats and cheeses), Truffle Fries (Crisp fries, chopped parsley, fresh garlic, cracked black pepper and a chipotle truffle dipping sauce) and a Pizza Seventy7 (Fire roasted red peppers, garlic shrimp, fresh mozzarella and basil on foccacio). All of the plates were fantastic and great bang for the buck.
Seventy7 will be starting a formal Happy Hour in late January or early February from 5pm - 8pm. On Sundays Seventy7 has live jazz from the Jeremy Gill Trio from 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm. Every second Sunday Seventy7 has live music, drink and beer specials from 8:00 pm - 2:00 am. Monday night is Date Night with a special menu and drink offers for couples. Wednesdays is Ladies Night, Thursdays is a One Way DJ Party and on Fridays in addition to their normal Happy Hour they are offering “The Green Hour” with Absinthe specials sponsored by Lucid Absinthe.
With so many wonderful things going on any night is a must do night at Seventy7. This is a great place for dates or just hanging out with friends. Seventy7 is a hidden gem soon to be on everyone’s radar. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and highly recommend this wonderful, sophisticated bar to you.
