Craving cocktails?™ Happy Hour at Oldfield's Liquor Room in Culver City

Located in the heart of Culver City, Oldfield’s Liquor Room opened for business on October 21, 2011 and is a major hit with all who have passed through their doors from college students to retirees.  This particular space has been a bar since 1933, the year prohibition was repealed.  The space was remodeled to reflect that time period in the most authentic way possible. The name of the bar, as well as all of the cocktail names, are taken from the life of one of the most famous racecar drivers the US has ever seen, Barney Oldfield. Not only did he break numerous records and pioneer the sport of racing, he also owned a number of bars in the Los Angeles area.  Pictures of Barney are mounted throughout Oldfield’s Liquor Room.

Bartender Robin Jackson and Manager Jared Mort really know their liquors and their craft.  Their juices are fresh squeezed, the syrups are made in house and the rest of their mixers are top notch.  This guarantees you consistently phenomenal cocktails on every visit.

Our visit was no exception.  We sampled a superb round of drinks including a Blitzen Benz (Cynar, Rye Whiskey, Maraschino, egg white Peychaud’s Bitters and citrus), Outlaw (Milagro Reposado, Jalapeno chile, honey, grapefruit, lime and cilantro), Indie Stutz (Jameson Irish Whisky, Absinthe, crème de cassis, fresh strawberry, mint and citrus), and Oldfield’s Hemingway (Rye whiskey, Maraschino, grapefruit, lime and sugar).  During Happy Hour all of these lovely libations are a mere $7.00.

We also could not resist sampling a few drinks not on Happy Hour including the Dauntless (Bols Genever, Poire Williams, fresh lime, house made falernum and Fever Tree Ginger Beer) and the Vanderbilt Cup (Hendrick’s Gin, port reduction, St. Germain, peach bitters and Fever Tree Ginger Beer).  All of these drinks are sure to get your engines revved!

At present the only food offered are homemade sandwiches.  On our visit we tried the Fra manhi ham, black cherry jam and farm butter sandwich which was only $5.00.  Oldfield’s will be introducing a weekly Sunday brunch after the holidays, and Jared plans on having different food trucks throughout the week.

Oldfield’s offers free wi-fi, plenty of table seating, and a quiet, relaxed atmosphere.  Their backroom is also available for private events and they are gearing up for a New Year’s Eve bash.  Whether you are on a date, just out for fun or doing business, Oldfield’s is sure to please.  This is one seriously outstanding bar with meticulously hand-crafted cocktails.  Be sure and check it out!
