What asstounded me most about Cowboys and Aliens was the route taken by the production. The set up allowed the kind of tongue in cheek play offs like Evil Dead, or Bubba Hotep, but instead the enitire movie is very plausable, and well, a western. There is one glaring "OMG really?" the entire movie but I expected the movie as a whole to produce this and it did not.
Jon Favreau does well with the material, and the pace is set just right. Harrison Ford's growly cowboy steals the show up to a point but David Craig shines brightest as a cowboy whose memory is shattered. Funny how British Actors pass as American better than the other way around. Alas Olivia Wilde during the proceedings was more just there (hello, I'm a pretty actress), but that didn't hurt this movie at all.
Western cliches were aplenty like the Man with No Name, evil owner of the town, rambunctious young cowboy, sensitive barkeep, Indians, all done out of tribute more than tongue in cheek. I rate this 4.5 out of 5. A must see!
