Counter Culture Coffee Claims to be Coffee Driven; Striving for the Perfect Cup
In current times, many of us judge the coffee we drink in ways other than the taste. We want our coffee to come from a company that uses the small coffee bean farmers, operating within the confines of what the industry considers "fair and sustainable" trade.
Counter Culture passes that test with flying colors, using the coffee beans from farms such as the legendary Finca Mauritania in El Salvador, a farm that sits on the slopes of the Santa Ana volcano, owned by the Batlle family.
Finca Mauritania
The Counter Culture Coffee sampled by the Food Products Examiner was made with the certified organic beans from this farm, a hard to find varietal coffee; coffee farms are normally planted with a mixture of different varieties of beans. Finca Mauritania is planted with the Salvadoran strain of the Bourbon variety exclusively, a bean that produces very sweet, complex, aromatic and unbelievable flavorful coffees.
The farm is managed by Aida Batlle, a woman known worldwide in the coffee business for the incredible quality of her coffee. But we realize that the coffee we drink isn't accomplished by the farm alone, as the company who roasts the beans has an equally important part to play.
Counter Culture takes their role in the life of a coffee bean quite seriously, considering themselves Coffee Driven, striving for the perfect cup of coffee. This exotic coffee that Counter Culture roasted and we tested, Finca Mauritania, is roasted with love and passion. The end product is a bean with a butterscotch note, with overtones of a sweet chocolate pastry fresh from the oven, rich and warm, delicate but with a definite presence.
In answer to reader's suggestions that we write a series on the actual coffee bean farming, we are still looking for that opportunity.
We enjoyed this supreme Counter Culture Coffee, giving it four out of five stars, which is high praise with only one sample tested.
