Lead by Top Chef New Orleans contestant Bret Pelaggi and owners Craig DeWald (who grew up in California's wine country) and Sommelier -or "Head Wine-O"- Heath Porter, Uvaggio offers a fresh and rather eclectic food menu that has been paired up with boutique wines from more than a dozen small distributors. The "tasting backwards" idea comes from the fact that these guys first select the wines they enjoy and then Chef Pelaggi creates the food that will pair beautifully with the elixir of gods, in a symphony of flavors, textures and scents that will definitely catch you by surprise, because there is nothing quite like it in Miami.

When you read the wine menu you realize that it is a bit different than what most restaurants currently offer, that happens because the Uvaggio boys refuse to work with the biggest and most common distributors but instead they are on a mission to find wine gems from all over the world. Their portfolio is comprised of more than 100 bottles from small-true-to-the-terroir wineries from many different countries, making this place a real wine bar in essence and nature.

They also make a handful of creative and delicious cocktails, such as the "You Can't Handle Vermouth" (which is infused with beet crystals) and they carry a small selection of craft beers.

The food menu offers a selection of snacks and dishes meant to be shared... just let your eyes wonder to the plates that look most appetizing to you and ask the correct wine that is meant to go with it so you can fully savor the dish and make your palate overjoy with happiness. Repeat the same with the desserts and don't be intimidated by the common notion of dessert wines, they pair incredibly well with the tantalizing sweet endings.

Uvaggio does not take any reservations as it is a first come, first serve restaurant that is open for dinner only. They host private groups and wine tastings for lunch. Uvaggio is part of the Coral Gables Restaurant Week and Taste of the Gables Event on June 5. This local gem is located at 70 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables, FL 33134. www.uvaggiowine.com.
